Here's a picture of how our deployed folks live over there in what we affectionately called "the pods." Balad Air Base, also known as "Mortaritaville," is sporadically (yet frequently) mortared by the insurgents. Notice the 12-foot-high concrete T-barriers, in addition to the sandbags.
